Left Yellow Sands at 8h00 and travelled on R72 to Kenton where Dave and Ester Steyn were waiting for us. We were amazed at the number of rivers with large inter tidal estuaries on the way. A very attractive area.
How wonderful to see the Steyns again after such a long time – and in their new home which they are renting until the old family home is sold. Kenton is far bigger than I thought it would be, but Dave says that it has only mushroomed recently.
We are camping in the only caravan park in the area, which is on the south side of the Bushman’s River.
Dog and Dave at Eco Estate |
It is very similar to Xaxaxa in Mtunzini, with lots of little wooden chalets and a couple of campsites in the middle. It is a suburban campsite and not recommended unless you have a reason to stay in the area. And we certainly do have a reason to be here.
Dave took us to the Kenton Eco Estate in the afternoon to see where he and Steve have a couple of plots. There are two boardwalks down through the dunes to the sea, to a beautiful flat beach with rocky outcrops and high sand dunes. After a wonderful walk along the beach with lots of sea birds, black backed gulls, oyster catchers among others, we drove around the estate (only a couple of houses have been built so far). Grey duiker and Oribi were in seen, but apparently there many bushbuck as well. The weather had changed with wind coming from the south west bringing a threat of rain and cooler weather.
Dave joined us for an evening braai – we christened our Cobb. Very impressed with it.
